2 riders heading out to hit the trails early.
It is a bit chilly out this morning. I had -14 here a little while ago. The sun is out and it looks like it is going to be a beautiful day. We did have some snow showers yesterday and we did end up getting about an inch or so of fluff. It isn’t much but every little bit counts. Snow levels haven’t changed much other than the dusting we got last night. The groomers have been out this week and are doing the best they can with what they have to work with. Trails are still very ride able. Reports from riders have overall been pretty good. The expressway and the majority of the Gunflint Trail has been in pretty good condition. I have had several riders that have rode towards Grand Portage and the reports were good except the last little bit getting to the gas station was the worst part. I did have a group that rode to the Trestle Inn yesterday and they said the state trail was pretty good up to the Lutsen/Tofte area along the state trail.
That is all for now. Think Snow everybody!!!!!!!

Conditions are the best they have been all year. We received about 2” of new snow yesterday morning and we had another dusting this morning. The groomers have been out. The Gunflint, Expressway, Clearwater Spur, and Hungry Jack Spur have been groomed within the last day. I have a few sledders in right now that said the trails overall are in pretty decent shape. Current snow levels are around 18”+ in the mid trail area. I have attached a pic of the groomer as it was going by the lodge about 11am this morning. Temps are mild right around 30 degrees here right now it looks like it will be around 30 for a high for the next couple of days, lows will be around 20 or the upper teens. Great weather for riding.
We still have cabin avaiability throughout the winter. Our Restaurant and Bar is open Daily. Remember we have a 24 hour gas pump which takes cash or credit. We only offer 91 Non-Oxygenated Fuel.

Lately we have had a lot of snowmobilers and fisherman come in and saying that they are pleasantly surprized at the amount of snow that we do have. I guess some people just look outside their door and assume that if they still don't have snow there must not be enough anywhere, well I would like to put a halt to these preconceived notions. We do have snow, admittedly it is not near our average, but we have enough to go out and have fun. Over the last week we recieved about 6-7" of snow, with chances of snow every day this coming week. The trails have been groomed and overall are in good shape. We have had about a dozen sledders through so far today. Reports are positive. Come on up and see us. Have a great day!

Winter is finally winning the battle for the northland this year. All over the state people have been seeing warm temperatures and minimal snowfall, lucky for us other than a couple unseasonably warm days we have stayed at or below freezing (expecting some below zero highs in the near future), In other words; what has come down has stuck around. We have over a foot of snow on the ground, the snowmobile trails have been packed, groomers are out, and snow is falling as I type. The over-all report from the sledders has been that some trails can be a little rough at times, but are definately ridable. Reports from the sledders in today are that the trails were looking great behind the groomers.
Fisherman may know that Fishing season for trout outside the boundary waters just opened up just last Saturday, and we had a good showing for that. Although Hungry Jack doesn't have any trout, all of the lakes that are easily accessable from Hungry Jack were having good fishing.
Winter in the north woods can supprise you at any time, but there is always some way to make the best of it. We've been waiting for a while for it to really 'feel' like winter, and now that it does we are getting amped to get out and play. Check back soon to see our new website platform at http://www.hungryjacklodge.com/

Beautiful day in July! Went for a paddle this late morning, 65 degrees and Sunny, doesn't get any better than this. Up ahead, Mount Anna! We recently bought three kayaks for the lodge, great for a morning sunrise paddle or a sunset paddle in the bay.
One of our many special guests here at Hungry Jack Lodge. The Hansen Family off to Rose Falls for the day. Rose Falls is located in the BWCAW, a beautiful attraction not far from the lodge. Just a 2 hour paddle in, picnic lunch for three, a hike to some great over looks of Canada and later a cool down in the warm water falls. 2 hour paddle back to the lodge, just in time for cocktail hour.
View of the Deck Patio side of lodge from the water. Our newly constructed lodge is coming together just perfect! We added deck seating with umbrellas, so you may enjoy a sunrise breakfast, or an afternoon appetizer in the shade. There is also lounge seating on the patio for afternoon cocktails or late night star gazing. You may also see a new paddle boat on the beach, free to use for Hungry Jack Lodge & Campground guests.

Some more special guests of Hungry Jack Lodge. The O' Donnell couple fishing and relaxing off our main dock. The O'Donnell's love it here so much, they are staying two weeks! "There will be a lot of this going on over the next week", they said. Fishing has been great now that the May Fly hatch is over. Guests are limiting out over on Leo Lake for Rainbow Trout. "We are catching really nice Small Mouth Bass any time of the day", says Ben Nelson (another guest), and good eating Walleyes have been caught in the moon light. Fishing pictures to come in future blog.

Here are a couple of photos of the fantastic rainbow that we had right over the top of Hungry Jack Lake on 5/31.
Is this a sign that Gunflint Trail fishermen will have good luck fishing at our northern Minnesota fishing resort on Hungry Jack Lake this year? Or perhaps, it’s an indication of a summer with great weather for people at our Minnesota family resort and campground?
We’re not really too superstitious but we certainly think it can only mean good luck and not bad luck.
2011 DINING ROOM & LOGGERS LOUNGE MENUS
The Hungry Jack Lodge and Campground 2011 Dinner Menu is now online and can be viewed on “Lodge” and “Dining & Banquets” pages of our website. As most of you already know, the Dining Room is open to both guests and non-guests of Hungry Jack Lodge and Campground. Dinner is served at 6:00 PM and reservations are required 1/2 day in advance for all dinners in our dining room during the summer.
In addition to our tantalizing dining room dinners we are now serving food in the Loggers Lounge located on the lower level of our Lodge. Food from our 2011 Loggers Lounge Menu is available in the Loggers Lounge from 12 Noon until 9:00 PM. The Loggers Lounge Menu can be accessed from both the “Lodge” and “Dining & Banquets” pages of the Hungry Jack Lodge website. ICE OFF OF HUNGRY JACK LAKE
FISHING SEASON “OPENER” IS THIS SATURDAY.
The fishing season for Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike, Lake Trout (summer season) and most other species will open on May 14th and hopefully be productive for northern Minnesota fishermen.
Generally speaking over the past few years the opening week of fishing season has been cold and somewhat rainy. However this year it looks like the first week of fishing season could be near perfect, if the weather forecasts are correct.
The weather forecast for 5/14 to 5/21 shows temperatures in the low to upper 60’s and mostly sunny to partly cloudy days. There is no rain in the forecast except for the opening day of fishing season itself. Let’s hope the forecasters are right and that everyone has great time fishing.
OUR MN FAMILY FISHING RESORT IS READY
We have been working feverishly at our MN family fishing resort getting our fishing docks in, getting boats ready and cleaning cabins in anticipation of the fishing opener. Most, but perhaps not all of the lakeside fishing cabins at our Gunflint Trail, northern Minnesota fishing resort will be open and available for rent on the opening day of Minnesota fishing season.
More often than not, most people who come to the Gunflint Trail and northern MN to fish during the first week or two of fishing season make their reservation only a few days in advance due to uncertain weather and ice conditions. Because the ice is already gone on Hungry Jack Lake and weather is predicted to be mild we do anticipate that our lakefront fishing cabins will be rented quickly at the last minute.
If you have always wanted to come to the Hungry Jack Lodge for the “opener” but have never made it due to bad weather we cannot suggest a better year than this year to rent a fishing cabin at our family fishing resort and experience the opening of MN fishing season. We suggest that you make your rental fishing cabin reservation as soon as possible.
MN FISHING CABIN RENTALS, BOAT RENTALS
GUNFLINT TRAIL FISHING GUIDE SERVICE
Hungry Jack Lodge and Campground, just off the Gunflint Trail in northern Minnesota is a “full service” fishing resort which offers not only fishing cabin rentals but also boat rentals, a full service bar and some of the best meals that you will ever have.
Family fishing cabin rental reservations can be made online at the Hungry Jack Lodge and Campground website. http://www.hungryjacklodge.com/ Because Hungry Jack Lodge is a “full service” MN fishing resort we also offer boat & motor rentals and Fishing Guide Services for the Gunflint Trail area.
We urge you to visit the Hungry Jack Lodge website to see all that Hungry Jack Lodge has to offer at our Gunflint Trail, Grand Marais, MN lakefront family resort. If you have questions please feel free to contact us by email at info@hungryjacklodge.com or phone us at (800) 338-1566.

SNOW REPORT FOR THE GUNFLINT TRAIL
We have received a few inches of fresh snow in the past few days. Yesterday and today look like absolutely beautiful days. We probably got 5+ inches of snow here along the mid trail area. Closer to Grand Marais I heard that the amount owas 8”+ in some areas.
The groomers have been out grooming the trails back into shape after the weekend. The new snow has been a big help as far as getting the trails in better shape. I know the trails were pretty beat-up last weekend. We hope to get the trails back in to shape for another couple of weekends if the weather holds. The tempratures are absolutely beautiful for riding.
We still have some winter cabin rentals available at our Gunflint Trail, Grand Marais, MN winter resort. Why not come up and take advantage of the last few weeks of snowmobiling in MN. Also keep in mind that we offer snowmobile rentals for the Grand Marais and Gunflint Trail areas of northern Minnesota for those friends of your's that may not have their own snowmobile.
CLOSED FROM 3/28 UNTIL 5/11
Hungry Jack Lodge will be closing on March 28th and will remain closed until May 11th, the weekend before the opening of the fishing season on May 14th. Even though we will be closed for a few weeks you can still make cabin rental reservations online from our Gunflint Trail resort website. We suggest that you make your cabin and log cabin rental reservations at our Gunflint Trail MN fishing resort early for the opening day of fishing season. The first couple of weeks after fishing season opens is usually booked pretty heavily.
