2 riders heading out to hit the trails early.
It is a bit chilly out this morning. I had -14 here a little while ago. The sun is out and it looks like it is going to be a beautiful day. We did have some snow showers yesterday and we did end up getting about an inch or so of fluff. It isn’t much but every little bit counts. Snow levels haven’t changed much other than the dusting we got last night. The groomers have been out this week and are doing the best they can with what they have to work with. Trails are still very ride able. Reports from riders have overall been pretty good. The expressway and the majority of the Gunflint Trail has been in pretty good condition. I have had several riders that have rode towards Grand Portage and the reports were good except the last little bit getting to the gas station was the worst part. I did have a group that rode to the Trestle Inn yesterday and they said the state trail was pretty good up to the Lutsen/Tofte area along the state trail.
That is all for now. Think Snow everybody!!!!!!!

Conditions are the best they have been all year. We received about 2” of new snow yesterday morning and we had another dusting this morning. The groomers have been out. The Gunflint, Expressway, Clearwater Spur, and Hungry Jack Spur have been groomed within the last day. I have a few sledders in right now that said the trails overall are in pretty decent shape. Current snow levels are around 18”+ in the mid trail area. I have attached a pic of the groomer as it was going by the lodge about 11am this morning. Temps are mild right around 30 degrees here right now it looks like it will be around 30 for a high for the next couple of days, lows will be around 20 or the upper teens. Great weather for riding.
We still have cabin avaiability throughout the winter. Our Restaurant and Bar is open Daily. Remember we have a 24 hour gas pump which takes cash or credit. We only offer 91 Non-Oxygenated Fuel.

Lately we have had a lot of snowmobilers and fisherman come in and saying that they are pleasantly surprized at the amount of snow that we do have. I guess some people just look outside their door and assume that if they still don't have snow there must not be enough anywhere, well I would like to put a halt to these preconceived notions. We do have snow, admittedly it is not near our average, but we have enough to go out and have fun. Over the last week we recieved about 6-7" of snow, with chances of snow every day this coming week. The trails have been groomed and overall are in good shape. We have had about a dozen sledders through so far today. Reports are positive. Come on up and see us. Have a great day!

Winter is finally winning the battle for the northland this year. All over the state people have been seeing warm temperatures and minimal snowfall, lucky for us other than a couple unseasonably warm days we have stayed at or below freezing (expecting some below zero highs in the near future), In other words; what has come down has stuck around. We have over a foot of snow on the ground, the snowmobile trails have been packed, groomers are out, and snow is falling as I type. The over-all report from the sledders has been that some trails can be a little rough at times, but are definately ridable. Reports from the sledders in today are that the trails were looking great behind the groomers.
Fisherman may know that Fishing season for trout outside the boundary waters just opened up just last Saturday, and we had a good showing for that. Although Hungry Jack doesn't have any trout, all of the lakes that are easily accessable from Hungry Jack were having good fishing.
Winter in the north woods can supprise you at any time, but there is always some way to make the best of it. We've been waiting for a while for it to really 'feel' like winter, and now that it does we are getting amped to get out and play.
